The BMZ’s Digital Agenda is the Ministry’s strategy for modern development cooperation in a world that is going through a digital transformation. It describes the contribution of the BMZ to the German government’s Digital Agenda  and provides a guiding framework for the implementation of digital projects. The BMZ’s Digital Agenda sets out how challenges can be tackled and how the opportunities of the digital revolution can be used. The topics addressed include climate, agriculture, education, business and economic development, displacement and migration.

The BMZ’s Digital Agenda has five strategic objectives.

  • Harnessing digital innovation
  • Reinforcing democratic processes
  • Helping displaced persons
  • Creating future-proof Jobs
  • Safeguarding human rights and ensuring participation

“Development policy is the future, it creates prospects and is digital. Digital technologies are spreading into every aspect of our lives and every continent. They are also leaving their mark on development policy. New technologies are making our lives faster, more transparent and more efficient. More people are able to share more knowledge. Value chains are being redesigned and entrepreneurial spirit is bursting forth in garages.”

The Digital Agenda is therefore about making use of the opportunities conjured up by the new digital era: new jobs, more economic growth in our partner countries, better implementation of the sustainability goals, more transparency, better availability of information and many other new developments.
