Handing over of water tank to collect rainwater at Nakawa Vocational Training Institute
The rainwater is drained by gutters and collected in the tank. The water is then pumped by a solar pump to the sanitary facilities of the student dorms. This use of rainwater will save up to 30 percent of the running costs for the training institute, writes the German Embassy Kampala.
On 18 October, 2018, German Ambassador, Albrecht Conze, officially handed over the water tank, which is part of a rainwater collection system at Nakawa Vocational Training Institute in Kampala. The water tank has a capacity of 150,000 litres and was funded by the small scale project fund of the German Foreign Office with approximately 10,000 Euro. Other parts of the collection system were contributed by the HWK Cologne (chamber of skilled crafts and small business Cologne).

The construction of the tank was carried out as an educational project in which students of the institute undertook the work with supervision by senior teaching staff and an outside engineer. Gutters and a solar pump for collecting and pumping the water were also installed by the students of the sanitary department, which is supported by HWK.
